Job Description

The Electrical Apprenticeship at AECI offers a comprehensive programme designed to develop skilled electricians. The apprenticeship includes both theoretical training and practical experience, ensuring participants gain a well-rounded understanding of the electrical trade.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete the apprenticeship program, which includes theoretical and practical components.
  • Service, repair, and install various electrical equipment.
  • Conduct maintenance work, including testing malfunctioning equipment, identifying defects, troubleshooting, repairing equipment, and replacing defective parts.
  • Assist with new and upgraded installations of building electrical wiring and AC 3-phase motors.
  • Perform miscellaneous legal ad hoc tasks as instructed by the Electrician or Maintenance Team Leader.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Assist with breakdown maintenance of electrical equipment.
  • Assist with testing and commissioning of electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Utilize electrical testing equipment and power tools.
  • Ensure accurate and honest reporting of incidents, near misses, and safety hazards.

Qualifications & Experience

To be eligible for the AECI Electrical Apprenticeship, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum education: Grade 12 with a post-matric qualification (N3 Electrical).
  • Basic awareness of SANS 10142 wiring code.
  • Awareness of Merseta apprenticeship requirements.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Basic awareness of OHSAct.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Deadline-driven.
