Job Description

The key purpose of the SAB Apprenticeship Programme is to train individuals to become qualified tradesmen and to equip them with the skills and experience needed to excel as artisans in their selected trades. The program spans 3–4 years, during which apprentices will engage in various aspects of their trade, from practical tasks to theoretical learning, ensuring comprehensive training aligned with company and SETA requirements.

Requirements

Applicants must have completed Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science. A National Technical Certificate (N4) is required to pursue the program in various trades such as Instrumentation. A higher qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (N5/N6) would be advantageous. Candidates should also possess an engineering aptitude, be self-motivated, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team. Physical fitness, good vision, and the ability to work flexible hours are essential.

Duties

  • Apprenticeship Completion: Fulfill the 3–4-year program as per company and SETA standards.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety, health, and environmental procedures and legislation.
  • Work Environment Maintenance: Maintain a safe, healthy, and clean working environment.
  • Technical Training: Gain practical knowledge and experience in locating plant, equipment, spares, and relevant documentation/systems.
  • Planning and Budgeting: Prepare and plan for job tasks efficiently.
  • Repair and Maintenance: Evaluate and repair breakdowns and perform maintenance tasks.
  • Optimization: Continuously improve plant, process equipment, and systems.
  • Technical Competence: Develop machine-specific technical skills.
