About the Internship

The Human Resources Internship Programme at SMU provides a well-rounded experience in the HR field. Interns will have the opportunity to work closely with HR professionals, assisting in core HR functions such as administration, employee relations, and organizational development. This experience is designed to equip interns with essential skills and knowledge, contributing to their professional growth and boosting their career readiness in the competitive job market.

Key Responsibilities

As an HR Intern, you will take on the following duties:

  • HR Support: Assist with HR administration and provide general support within the HR department.
  • Staff Assistance: Handle HR-related queries and offer administrative support to SMU staff.
  • Logistics: Organize meetings, handle scheduling, take meeting minutes, and prepare documents like letters, memos, and reports.
  • Document Management: File documents, coordinate travel arrangements, and book accommodations for the HR team.
  • Department Rotation: Gain exposure to various HR functions through rotational assignments.
  • Institutional Culture: Contribute actively to SMU’s development and support a positive work culture.
  • Additional Tasks: Perform other HR-related duties as assigned by supervisors.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Organizational Development, Employee Relations, or an equivalent qualification.
  • New entrant into the HR field (no prior HR internship experience).
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • South African citizenship.
