Job Description
As a Finance Management Grant Intern, you will work closely with mentors in the Budget and Treasury Office. Your role will be integral in supporting the implementation of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), its regulations, and associated reforms. You will assist accountants in various finance units, ensuring compliance with national financial standards and contributing to the efficient financial management of the municipality.
Key Responsibilities:
- MFMA Implementation: Assist mentors with the implementation of the MFMA and related regulations.
- Reporting: Help in preparing and submitting returns and reports to the National Treasury and other government bodies.
- Annual Financial Statements: Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements and related reconciliation tasks.
- Budget Preparation: Support the preparation and adjustment of municipal budgets.
- Documentation Management: Collate and prepare documentation for payments, including service providers and salaries.
- Audit Assistance: Contribute to the compilation of the audit working paper file.
- Revenue Management: Provide support in revenue management functions.
- Asset Management: Assist in the implementation of asset management standards and policies.
- Supply Chain Management: Provide assistance in the Supply Chain Management section as per legislative requirements.
- Rotation: Be prepared to rotate across various finance units as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Three-year Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma with majors in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Risk Management, and/or Auditing.
- Experience: Previous experience is not required, but a strong academic background in the relevant fields is essential.
