Job Description

The DSI-CSIR Bursary Programme 2025 aims to foster the development of high-level skills in South Africa by providing financial support to students pursuing postgraduate qualifications in critical areas of science and technology. The bursary is available for Honours, 4th year Engineering, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters, and Doctoral studies across a range of thematic research focus areas, including Biocatalysis, Health, Photonics, Water Research, and more.

Requirements

To qualify for the DSI-CSIR Bursary Programme 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Enrolled or intend to enroll full-time for a postgraduate qualification in one of the specified thematic research areas in 2025.
  • Must be studying or accepted/registered at a public university in South Africa.
  • Must not be receiving any other bursary funding.
  • Honours Applicants: Must not be older than 28 years and must have achieved at least 65% in all major subjects during their final undergraduate year.
  • Masters Applicants: Must not be older than 30 years and must have achieved at least 65% in all major subjects during Honours or final year of a 4-year degree.
  • Doctoral Applicants: Must not be older than 32 years and must have achieved at least 65% at the Masters level.
  • Masters and Doctoral applicants must also have supervisor endorsement and motivation.
  • Preference will be given to students with disabilities and those from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

Duties

Bursary recipients will:

  • Engage in full-time study towards their chosen postgraduate qualification within one of the approved thematic areas.
  • Participate in research activities aligned with national and departmental priorities.
  • Regularly consult with their academic supervisors to ensure steady progress in their research.
  • Comply with all university regulations and maintain the academic standards required by the bursary.
  • Contribute to the knowledge base within their field of study, potentially through publications, presentations, or other academic outputs.
