Job Description

The Manufacturing Inspector will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and safety of Sasol’s pressure vessels, steam generators, storage tanks, and piping. The role includes:

  • Inspection Responsibilities: Conducting inspections on new manufacturing, repairs, and modifications to ensure compliance with the Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER) and SANS standards.
  • Legal Accountability: Ensuring all activities adhere to the legal requirements outlined in the PER and OSHA Act, supporting the safe operation of equipment.
  • Specialized Equipment: Utilizing advanced inspection tools and techniques to assess the condition of pressurized equipment and recommend necessary repairs or modifications.
  • Training and Mentorship: Assisting in the development of trainee inspectors, helping them achieve certification as Inspectors of Pressurized Equipment (IPE).
  • Quality Assurance: Monitoring welding and fabrication activities, verifying that all work is conducted by competent personnel and in compliance with quality management systems.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Maintaining detailed records of inspections and ensuring that all processes comply with the relevant health and safety standards.

Job Requirements

  • Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 with English, Mathematics, and Science.
  • Certified Inspector of Pressurized Equipment (IPE) - metallic (required) and non-metallics (preferred).
  • Relevant SAIW courses, Welding Inspector certifications, and knowledge of SME Codes.
  • RT Interpreters certification.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of inspection experience, particularly in petrochemical operations.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • In-depth knowledge of PER, international codes, and standards for pressure equipment.
  • Strong understanding of Quality Assurance standards and non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques.
  • Ability to interpret specialized NDT techniques and failure mechanisms.
