Job Description

The Fitter & Turner at Nampak Bevcan-Springs will be responsible for:

  • Mechanical Breakdown Management: Attending to and resolving mechanical breakdowns and stoppages to minimize downtime.
  • Machinery Maintenance: Maintaining, repairing, and improving machinery to ensure it operates at maximum availability.
  • Fault Finding and Root Cause Analysis: Identifying issues with machinery and determining the root causes of problems to prevent future occurrences.
  • Rebuilding of Spares: Rebuilding and refurbishing spare parts to ensure equipment longevity.
  • General Maintenance: Performing general maintenance tasks, including grinding, turning, milling, and fitting, and ensuring the area of responsibility is kept clean and orderly.
  • Housekeeping: Maintaining high standards of housekeeping within the work area.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Educational Background: Qualified artisan with an N3 or Matric certificate.
  • Trade Certification: Fitter & Turner or Boilermaker trade test certificate.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of post-qualification experience in a mechanical workshop.
  • Specialized Skills: Experience in hydraulics and pneumatics is essential.
  • Additional Experience: Experience in services/utilities maintenance.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in mechanical fault finding and problem-solving.
  • Computer Skills: Basic computer literacy is required, with JDE literacy considered an advantage.
  • Work Requirements: Willingness to work overtime as needed, ability to function under pressure, and a task- and results-oriented approach.
